For the past several days I got work with a true *Lady*

If, you’re like most of us, you grew up watching “Thelma” on Good Times.

Well now Bern Nadette Stanis is a beautiful woman with the roles of social activist and author. She is also still a performer and does motivational speaking. I had the privilege of producing some commercial video with her as the on-air talent and it was really wonderful to be around such an inspiration! Seriously, there are not many celebrities out there with her level of notoriety coming from such an explosive era who kept dignity the way she has. I heard that she turned down playboy TWICE!!

Meet my former Voice Teacher Lady Helen Stephens…

When I was seven I started taking piano and voice lessons from Mrs. Stephens and she worked with me over the years until I went off to college at seventeen. Now Mrs. Stephens is EIGHTY yrs young and she still blesses the Bay Area with her music. The first video is her piano solo,’The Lord’s Prayer’, and in the second video I join in to sing as she plays ‘Even Me’.

Mixing and Mastering

Wow. It had been a long time since I heard the music from my upcoming CD. I now realize more and more how important it is to be surrounded with talented people. Dave Jackson, my producer, wrote a song called That’s Why He Did It and the song is CRUCIAL. It’s just straight up church. Undeniable. I can’t wait for you to hear it. I’m thinking it needs to be the first single. I listened to it with Carl Wheeler who is doing the mixing and mastering on my project. I’m so thankful that he is using his free time to work on this. He’s a member of Maze (as in Frankie Beverly) and spends a lot of time traveling so I’m very blessed that he agreed to work on my project.

Risky Audition

I had an audition today. That’s not really big news… but i did take a big risk. I performed a new monologue and for the first time and performed it with an accent I’ve been working on. I probably shouldn’t have added the accent to a piece I had never performed before but… I really enjoyed the challenge. The monologue was taken from Ntozake Shange’s For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf, but no, that’s not what I was auditioning for. I am however looking forward to the moive version that Tyler Perry is working on with Janet Jackson and Jill Scott and the other lovely ladies. But for me honestly it’s all about Janet.
